Mario R. Medina was born in Concepcion, Chile, in 1965. He received a B.S.E.E. degree from the University of Concepcion, Chile, and  M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been a faculty member of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Concepcion, since 1991. He is interested in all kinds of computer systems, from tiny microcontrollers to large distributed systems, with an special emphasis on parallel algorithms and filesystems.
