Eduardo P. Wiechmann (S’81–M’86–SM’94) received the Electronics Eng. degree from Santa María University, Valparaíso, Chile, in 1975, and the Ph.D. degree from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, in 1985.
He is currently Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Concepción, Chile. His research interests include power converters, high-current rectifiers, copper electrowinning, mining shovels, arc flash hazard, energy efficiency and power quality. His industrial experience includes more than 10,000 hh in engineering projects and consulting. Dr. Wiechmann was the recipient of the 2000 Concepción City Award for Outstanding Achievements in Applied Research and the 2012 Chilean National Innovation Award Avonni for its contributions in Energy Efficiency in mining.
